In short
Mallyce Miller is a Los Angeles creative director with more than twenty years in apparel. For fourteen years she was Creative Director of brand and product at JOLYN, where she was the first creative hire and helped bring the brand to tens of millions in annual sales and a global company. She now runs Flume & Field, which provides fractional creative direction and builds AI systems for fashion brands.
In full
Mallyce Miller learned the fashion business from every side before she ran creative. She worked as a wardrobe stylist, and in design, PR, sales and production, on purpose, to see how the whole industry fits together. In 2007 she founded and designed her own contemporary women’s label, LAEKEN, and took it from concept to retail in under two years, with placement at Henri Bendel, Aritzia, Revolve and Curve and at boutiques in Japan and Canada. In 2008 she was named one of Gen Art’s Fresh Faces in Fashion.
After a year as Creative Director at Groceries Apparel, she joined JOLYN in 2012 as its first creative hire. She was the Creative Director, brand and product, for fourteen years and built the creative and marketing function from nothing. She led campaigns, photoshoots, art direction and ecommerce creative on the brand side, and seasonal design direction, trend forecasting, print, color and line development on the product side. She built JOLYN’s print program in 2012, when the brand was releasing a couple of prints a year, and grew it to over 60 prints a year. She designed much of JOLYN’s competitive swim and surf lifestyle assortment. She designed the suit and print USA beach volleyball wore at the Olympics, and led brand creative direction, along with design direction through JOLYN’s entry into REI, Title Nine and Dick’s Sporting Goods. JOLYN grew into a global company doing tens of millions in annual sales, and its Instagram grew from 100 to 255,000 followers through organic content.
She started studying AI at night, years ago, including Stanford Online’s Generative AI in Business. In 2026 she founded Flume & Field to bring AI into apparel teams from someone who has run the fittings and the shoots. She also edits Fashion AI Toolkit, a creative director’s field guide to the AI tools worth using in fashion, and writes Field Notes, a free newsletter about what AI does and does not change inside fashion companies.
